G.J. Frick Cash Grocery was owned and operated by an interesting man named Gottlieb James Frick. Gottlieb and his wife Pearl appear to have opened the grocery around 1905 and then for reasons unknown moved to New Mexico for a short period around 1910.
Even while in New Mexico he was involved in grocery sales. By 1918 he was back living in Marion with his family but now was also a practicing undertaker living at 901 N. Court St. where he had started a mortuary business called Frick Funeral home.
Over the years he claimed 602, 604 and 606 West Boulevard as an embalming business, a grocery store and Frick’s Plumbing and Heating. He served as Marion city commissioner twice. In 1941 he moved the family funeral business from 901 N. Court to 104 S. Van Buren.
After his death in 1953, the funeral home was sold in 1955 and became Wilson Funeral Home where it remained for about two decades. See also, biography of G.J. Frick.
