The Goodall Hotel stood as an imposing monument to the business efforts of George Henry Goodall (1860-1945) who started building the hotel in 1897 and completed it in 1899. The building housed numerous businesses over time including insurance agencies, confectionaries, the Williamson County Savings Bank, a branch of the Elles Stores, and many more.
The building finally met its demise on March 4th 1941 when it was completely destroyed by fire even though it had close calls in the past. The fire at the time was the largest fire Marion had experienced.
After the fire it imposed a threat from its large walls crashing down for days afterward on adjoining buildings. The lot was cleared and remained open until the 1950’s.
It was occupied by a used car lot in the early 1950’s until W. T. Grant Company built their building in 1955 which is currently being used as City Hall.
