A temporary fireman to replace Jack Whiting, who has re-injured his foot, will be employed in Marion. The matter was discussed at a meeting of the City Council Monday night. Commissioner Robert Yearack said Whiting broke his foot about six weeks ago and during his absence other firemen were working his shifts for him, but now they need relief, especially since vacation time has arrived. The replacement would be employed for three or four weeks, until Whiting is able to work again. Yearack said there are three names in the merit pool and one of these will be selected if the person would work for a short period. He said it would be a good opportunity to gain experience.
