Sullivan Poultry House ca 1910

 

The old poultry house, pictured here, was owned by Edward G. Sullivan, this building was on N. Van Buren, just west of the Illinois Central Railroad track. The forground of the picture is the West end of the old Illinois Central Depot platform. The second man from the left, standing by the front wheel of 1st steam tractor is Tom Newell, an earth moving contractor.

The steam engines used on the two steam tractors are Reeves 2 cylinder 20 to 60 horsepower. These tractors were used to bluild the C.B. 12 railroad west of Marion about 1909-1910.

Fineucane was one of the contractors and he purchased these engines new just for that job.

The building itself was built in 1881 by Goodall and Campbell as a tobacco drying barn and was occupied in the early 1900’s by the Armour Packing Company as a poultry house prior to Sullivan.
