This home at 1001 E. College Street was built in 1900 by Benjamin B. Griggs, owner and founder of a Pressed Brick Company at 1200 E. College St. Benjamin and his wife Sarah lived here with their five children till her death in March 1904. Apparently, Benjamin left the home after her death and his remarriage in September of the same year.
By 1907, the home was occupied by the William Capron family. In 1922 Charles Holmes lived there, followed by R.W. Tanner in 1928 into the 1930’s. In 1939, R.H. Wells lived there followed by Jack J. Fly, a retired farmer who bought the house in the early 1940’s. Jack and his wife lived there till his death in the 1970’s. The house has been owned and lived in continuously since then by Deloris Smith to this date.
