The following is a list of those who lost their lives in the May 29, 1982 tornado that devastated Marion, Illinois.
James Paul Gulledge
James Paul Gulledge, 17, of Route 1, Marion, died Saturday afternoon at the Shawnee Apartments during the tornado which passed through Marion.
He was born Sept. 4, 1964 in Gary, Ind. to James W. Gulledge and Madelyn Stamper King.
Gulledge is survived by his parents and one sister, Patricia Gulledge of Marion.
A student at Marion High School, Gulledge had just completed his junior year. He was active in basketball and track while attending school and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mitchell, Hughes and I Pinasters with the Rev. James E. Bryant officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Ferne Kobler
Ferne Kobler, 67, a resident of the Shawnee Apartments in Marion, died Saturday afternoon after a tornado struck the building in which she lived.
She was born August 10, 1914 in Marion to William E. and Bertha E. Pulley Singleton. She was married to Edgar Kobler and he preceded her in death in March of 1979.
Mrs. Kobler is survived by one sister, Mrs. Helen Webber, and one brother, Paul Singleton, both of Pontiac, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ken and Len Singleton.
Mrs. Kobler was a retired employee of the Peoria State Hospital, and was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and the First Church of God in Marion.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mitchell, Hughes and Lemasters with the Rev. Cameron Marler officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Zelma Latham
Zelma Latham, 79, 905 E. Boulevard, Marion, died Saturday afternoon from injuries received after a tornado struck her home.
She was born Sept. 28, 1902 in Allenville, Mo. to William and Sudie Gunn Dalton. She was married to Albert F. “Judge” Latham in Herrin on March 31, 1936 and he preceded her in death July 13, 1959.
Mrs. Latham was a homemaker and had formerly been employed at Anna State Hospital and Elgin State Hospital as an occupational therapy aide. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Marion.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. William (Billie) Pressley of Marion; two grandchildren, Charles and Renee Pressley; two great-grand-children; one sister, Mrs. William (Altha) Weinacht of Yuca Valley, Calif.; one brother, Leonard Dalton of Advance, Mo.; 18 nieces and nephews and 14 great-nieces and nephews, In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. James Sloan officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill cemetery.
Lynn Moore
Miss Lynn Moore, 18, 701 E. Monroe St., Herrin, died Saturday afternoon during the tornado which struck Marion.
She was born May 20, 1964 in Herrin to Allen and Sue Duncan Moore who survive along with her brother, Brad, at home; maternal grandfather, Jess Duncan, Herrin; paternal grandmother, Ida Moore, Herrin.
Miss Moore was employed as a checker at the Herrin Kroger store and graduated Friday, May 28 from Herrin High School. While attending high school she was a cheerleader her freshman and sophomore years and a letter girl her senior year. She was a member of the Union Gospel Mission Church in Herrin.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson’s Funeral Home in Herrin with the Rev. James Wright of the Energy Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Herrin City Cemetery.
Pauline Pearson
Pauline Pearson, 63, 1405 Shawnee Drive, Marion died in her apartment at Shawnee Village.
Mae E. Rader
Mae E. Rader, 79, 1427 Shawnee Drive, Marion died in her apartment at Shawnee Village.
James Simmons
James Bryan Simmons, 11, of Route 11, Marion, died Saturday of injuries he received following the disastrous tornado.
He was born Feb. 6,1971, in Marion, to James L. and Helen Jeanette LaBotte Simmons.
He was a fifth grade student at Jefferson Elementary School in Marion.
Survivors include his parents; step- brother, Bill Barra of Johnston City; step-sisters, Debby Graham of Amarillo, Texas, Terrie Ridlen of Johnston City, Melinda Kay Smoot of Carterville, Cheryl Montgomery of Florida, and Kimberly Simmons of Marion; and maternal grandparents, Harry and Ethel LaBotte of West Frankfort.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Murman-Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Helen White
Helen White, 62, of 1425 Shawnee Drive, Marion, died Saturday of injuries she received following the disastrous tornado.
Tentative funeral arrangements are scheduled for Tuesday at the Murman-Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City.
Leona White
Leona White, 96, of 1425 Shawnee Drive, Marion, died Saturday of injuries she received following the disastrous tornado.

Effie Jane Wilson
Funeral services for Effie Jane Wilson, 59, 109 N. 7th. St., Marion, head cashier at P.N. Hirsch Dept. Store, killed in the store when a tornado hit Marion Saturday afternoon, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home.
She was born Sept. 22,1922, to James M. and Stella Beggs Holmes in Marion.
Mrs. Wilson died when the storm hit the store in Town and Country Village Shopping Center about 3:30 p.m. Saturday. She was the wife of Charles M. Wilson.
The couple was married in Karnak. They have one daughter, Linda Robertson, Marion, two sons, James Harmon of Tulsa and Jeff Wilson of Marion, and three grandchildren.
Survivors also include two sisters, Mrs. Kenneth (Genevieve) Holland, Nashville, Tenn., and Mrs. Autie (Lucille) Hightower, Marion. She was preceded by her parents, three brothers, Henry S., Floyd R., and J.B. Holmes.
Mrs. Wilson was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Marion, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary of Marion. Officiating at services will be the Rev. Royce Little. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
