Established in Marion, January 2, 1907, the Citizens Trust and Banking Company was long recognized as one of the leading financial institutions of Marion and Williamson County. Its first location was at 805 Public Square in Marion.
The bank was organized with a capital stock of $100,000.00 by the following officers and directors: Miles Parks, President; W.W. Clemmons, Vice President; Roscoe Parks, cashier; William Hendrickson, assistant cashier; W.0. Potter, attorney. The Charter directors were: Albert L. Cline, Archibald B. McLaren, A.C. Hentz, John W. Gray, E.T. Gallagher, Charles A. Gent, T.N. Cripps and A.R. Chamness.
The Citizens Trust and Banking Company enjoyed a steady growth from organization, and in 1918, the one-half million mark in deposits was reached, which is creditable.
The officers in 1919 were: A. B. McLaren, president; Wm. Hendrickson, vice-president; Wm. Wohlwend, cashier; P. W. Ballance, assistant cashier; Altha Perry, assistant cashier; Rufus Neely, attorney. The directors that year were A.B. McLaren, R.0. Clarida, Wm. Hendrickson, R.T. Owens, John J. Wohlwend, James H. Felts, E.L. Wellborn, M.A. Atwood, Ed Alexander, Geo. W. Mercer, and A.C. Corley.
In October, 1919, plans were drawn and fixtures bought for a new banking room on the corner of East Main and the Square which would give them one of the modern and spacious banking rooms in southern Illinois. These plans were brought to fruition when the bank moved into the corner floor of the Goodall Hotel at 1105 Public Square around 1920.
The bank was active until the depression and a string of bank failures in 1930. By the end of 1930 there were no functional banks in Marion or Williamson County.
