The cause of a Saturday fire that heavily damaged the Jackson & Grey Insurance Company building at 413 N. Market Street in Marion remains under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office and Marion Fire Department.
No injuries were reported from the blaze, which took about 2 1/2 hours to put out. Marion firefighters were assisted by other local departments.
The fire department received an emergency call at 1:31 P.M. When firefighters arrived at the scene, heavy flames were coming from the front of the two story building, according to a preliminary fire report. The building was unoccupied.
There was major flame damage throughout the first floor. The second floor and basement had heat, smoke and water damage.
Firefighters remained on the scene until about 9 P.M.
