Marion Buys, Leases Land
Land purchase and lease to meet future expansion needs of the Marion sewer department were approved by the City Council Monday night.
The council approved paying $950 to Mrs. Estella Ford for 1.4 acres of land adjacent to the sewer plant south of Boyton Street.
It also approved lease of a 505 X 102 foot lot with two metal barns on it from Mrs. Ford. The lease is for one year at $1,200 with an option to renew at the same terms.
The city is also given first option to buy the lot if she decides to sell it. Rentals paid will apply toward the sale price.
Commissioner E.E. Jeter said all the city’s equipment can be stored nightly in the two barns. He said that will save the city’s equipment and expanses in the long run.
Jeter said the 1.4 acre bought is the first step in expansion by the city to meet population growth needs in the future and to meet present need.
The purchase and lease agreement were place on file for public inspection before final action at the next council meeting.
