This photograph taken in front of the old Marion Township High School on West Main Street in 1914 is a bit of a mystery. It was donated by one of the descendants of Earl Blankenship Sr., founder of E. Blankenship Auto Supplies, to the Williamson County Historical Society.
There are far too many people in the photo to be the 1914 graduating class of Marion High and the folks look a bit too old for it to be a joint 8th grade graduation photo. The trend after the turn of the century was to gather up all of the 8th grade graduates from the many little, one-room schools in the county for a group photo. The county museum on S. Van Buren Street in Marion has many such photos of that nature.
The graduates of Marion High School in 1914 were; Carl F. Allen, Bertha Brown, Kathryn L. Carter, Agnes Tot Craig, Lulu A. Doerr, Charles H. Fowler, Myrtle Fay Garrison, Henry A. Gulley, Mayme M. Harris, John H. Lee, Fannie Norman, Charles Bourke Page, Mayme Pulley, J. Hal Robertson, Frances Nesbit Smith, Dena K. Stanley, Vernie Stilley, James Lee Sullivan, Ethel Tibbals, Mae Woodley
If anyone has any clues about the photo, I would like to hear them.
