A string of bedclothes hanging from a jail window this morning defeated the plans of four county prisoners who were planning a daylight escape from the Williamson County jail. The jailbirds had made elaborate plans. They had carefully removed bricks from the wails near a window and were nearly ready to drop to the ground, but dropped the string of bed clothes to be used for the descent too soon. The clothes were seen by Otis Williams who gave the alarm and the sheriff soon had the men locked up again. Mrs. Harris had been at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sanders, who is very ill so they took advantage of that opportunity to make their getaway. Those who made the attempt are Ira Newton, charged with forgery and caught in his night clothes by the sheriff, Victor Urban, charged with grand larceny, E.O. Edwards, charged with stealing wire and A. Davis of Johnston City, who was caught preparing to rob a box car. Mcroy, charged with murder, was in the same cage but had no connection with the attempted jail delivery. The bricks were removed by means of a sharp metal piece removed from the bed bunks.
