Johnston City Sam Bullero, an Italian merchant and Nick Bacino, an Italian miner, of this place, are both dead as a result of a duel with automatic revolvers which took place in Bullero’s store at 9 o’clock last night, while celebrating St. Joseph’s Day. It was understood that the duel was a result of a feud which started before the men had left Italy and that enmity had existed during the years they resided in this country, altho recently they had become friends. Bacino was shot four times by Bullero; once in the hand, in the face, forehead and mouth, but so rapidly were the shots fired that the wounds could be covered by the hand. He died in the store before assistance could be given him. Bullero was shot near the heart and thru the bowels. He was rushed to the hospital at Herrin, where he died shortly after his arrival. Mrs. Bullero was said to have been shot in the hand, but this is not verified. The wife of Bacino was shot in the breast and the seventeen-year-old son was hit in the throat, but these will all probably recover. They are now in the Herrin Hospital. Other shots went wild. Great excitement followed the shooting, as both parties were well known in the Italian quarters. Coroner McCown was called from Marion and conducted the inquest over the bodies Thursday morning.
