The General Telephone Company building was originally located at 201 N. Van Buren St., and was the one used by the Ohio and Mississippi Valley Telephone Co. The original building was constructed by Joab Goodall, but has been remodeled several times. Continue reading

For years, Marguerite Cagle and her family owned and operated the Hotel State building, an apt name for the stately tall, white building that has been a cornerstone of the West Main Street exit off the square since it was built in 1914. Continue reading

Dave Harrison’s combination store, bank and post office was located in the 800 block of West Main Street under the Masonic Lodge Hall. So far no further information is known about him or the store. This picture had no date but appears to date to around 1900.

The Goodall Hotel stood as an imposing monument to the business efforts of George Henry Goodall (1860-1945) who started building the hotel in 1897 and completed it in 1899. Continue reading
