1930, August 4 – Hotel Destroyed on W. Main St.

Fire, believed to have started from defective wiring, started a blaze in the New European Hotel on W. Main Street Sunday evening which destroyed the hotel, Cole and Sons Garage, threatened to destroy the Hughes building and the K.P.I.O.O.F. buildings and resulted in the death of Lester Madden, 21 of Chicago. 1927, October 6 – Chapman Auto Supply Sustains Fire Damage

Fire, which broke out in the tire and battery department of the S.J. Chapman auto accessory stores in the Holland building on North Street about 5:30 o’clock Wed. afternoon was brought under control after a few minutes of strenuous fighting under difficulties by the fire department and employees of the company.
