This is a photo of the old Marion Fire house that used to sit on the NE corner of N. Van Buren and West Union street just off the square. It was built in 1915 when the city had a team of horses and a wagon for fire prevention. The horses were housed in what later became the kitchen. Continue reading

This photo of the Marion Fire Department at the fire station on West Union Street appeared in the Marion Daily Republican on April 27, 1953. Left to right, E.E. Weber, Fire Chief Zoral Buckner, Ass’t Chief Jack Whiting, Jack Stephens and Lawrence Dungey. The photo was taken by Carl Sorgen.

A parade being held in the late 1800’s around the Public Square depict the Marion Fire Dept pumpers being horse drawn and in the second photo a precession of Indians on horseback. This shot is looking into the southwest corner of the square.
Note the presence of a small building in the corner where the Orpheum Theater would later be built in 1922.
