James Henderson Clarida, grandfather of Bill Butler and Mayor Robert Butler, was born March 30, 1876 at Crab Orchard, the son of William J. Clarida and Irena Culbreth. He grew up on a farm and attended school at Pleasant Grove.
In the 1880 census, James H. was 4 years old and sharing space with a sister, Ida J. Clarida, age 6, in the home of his parents on their farm in Crab Orchard Precinct of Williamson County. Continue reading
Paul Rametta Shot Down By Luther Frey, Marion Daily Republican, Dec. 8, 1950
A gun duel which blazed briefly across North Court Street early Thursday evening (Dec. 7) left one man dead as his slayer calmly telephoned police. The slain man was Paul Rametta, Marion truck operator.
Held in the county jail Friday pending a coroner’s investigation of the shooting was Luther Frey, 31, of Marion, ex-convict. Continue reading

The last section of the Grandma Cline house on South Market Street was removed today leaving the lot vacant that has not been so in 60 years or more.

Marion Buys, Leases Land
Land purchase and lease to meet future expansion needs of the Marion sewer department were approved by the City Council Monday night.
The council approved paying $950 to Mrs. Estella Ford for 1.4 acres of land adjacent to the sewer plant south of Boyton Street. Continue reading
