The Lion’s Club of Marion was chartered on April 24, 1923 and was organized by Warren A. Chilcote. The new club had forty members and met at the Marion Garage Tuesdays at 8:00 P.M.

How the Marion City Recreation Board went from a $1.33 treasury and $250 in bills in 1944 to a more than $16,000 a year budget was outlined at the regular meeting of the Lions Wednesday by retiring recreation director, Cliff Storme. Sgt. Major Raymond Jones traveled 9,700 miles from Vietnam to supervise a benefit barbeque in the tradition of his father, the late John W. Jones, a member of the Marion Lion’s club which sponsored the event. Continue reading
