John B. Bainbridge was one of the sons of a pioneer family which settled in a small community bearing the Bainbridge name three miles west of Marion. Henry W. Perry, a surveyor, was employed October 16, 1839, to survey and plat the town lots, which are known as the Original Survey of the City of Marion, including the Public Square. These lots were ordered to be sold on six, twelve and eighteen months’ time by the Sheriff. Continue reading
