Ralph W. Harris was born November 20, 1904 in Creal Springs to Willis T. and Emma (Schafer) Harris.
The 1910 census revealed that Ralph’s family was living in Marion at 201 S. Market Street. Ralph’s father, Willis, was managing a livery stable. Ralph was 5 and shared space with six siblings. His older sister, Minnie L. Harris, was a public school teacher. The census indicated that Ralph’s mother had given birth to ten children and that eight of them were still living. Continue reading
William L. Harris was born August 30, 1923 in Marion, the son of Oscar Robert Harris (1896-1980) and Estelle (Murphy) Harris (1898-1948). William was politically active on the city, county and state levels of government in addition to being a businessman. Continue reading
James V. Grider is a native of Franklin County. He was born November 3, 1840, and moved with his father’s family into Williamson County in 1844 and into Marion in 1849.
In the 1850 census, James was 10 and living with his father and siblings. His father’s name was William M. Grider and listed himself as a house carpenter. Continue reading
William Hendrickson was born in this county on October 16, 1845, on his father’s forty acre farm, two miles north of Pittsburg. His father was Jesse Hendrickson (1822-1898) and his mother was Martha Ann Lewis (1823-1896). His father came to Williamson County from Tennessee in 1830, married Martha in 1845 and they had six children. Continue reading
Brice Holland
It isn’t often you run across an individual who actually fought in the Civil War on both sides, but this appears to be one of them. Although there some disparities in dates and locations, that exist between his obituary and actual records, this man lead an interesting life.
Brice Holland was born on January 29, 1842, in Monongalia County, Palestine, W. Virginia, the son of Jacob Holland and Emily J. Tarleton, natives respectively of Virginia and Pennsylvania. His mother passed away in 1857. Continue reading
