John K. Miller, active Marion Lion, Shriner, Fair Board and Marion Park District member, was born on March 3, 1918, in Marion on S. Court Street to Ray Miller and Ruth Kilbreth. Members of the Marion Lions Club celebrated their 50th anniversary Saturday night with a dinner at the Marion Holiday Inn.
Clarior S. Johnson, of Joliet, a past director of Lions International, was the principal speaker on the program which included presentation of awards to the club by Larry Mehring of Red Bud, governor of District 1C, and a review of the club’s history by Attorney August L. Fowler. Continue reading
The Marion Lion’s Club was organized on April 24,1923 by Warren A. Chilcote, who got a $500 commission for organizing the club. There were 40 Charter Members and the first president was John M. Reid, a lawyer who later became a city judge. Continue reading
