Marion, Illinois, established August 20, 1839. Town Chartered February 24, 1841 by special act of legislature. The original charter of Marion was repealed on February 15, 1847. James Cafield Mitchell was born in Corinth Township, near Attila in Williamson County on October 30, 1852 to William N. Mitchell and Rachel Roberts.
